MacLaine has arrived — not perfectly, but as herself.Born and raised in the Bay Area, California, MacLaine's songwriting has been shaped by movement: Northern California to Virginia, and now New York City. From the calm, light tread of quieter places to the quick pace of the city, her music lives in the space between stillness and motion. Wherever she lands, she writes, trying to make sense of the daily happenings and the drawn-out feelings that linger beneath them.
Rooted in folk and indie sounds, her songs are observant, lyrical, and acoustic at their core. Influenced by the timeless honesty of Brandi Carlile, Joni Mitchell, and Joan Baez, alongside the introspective weight of Watchhouse and Adrianne Lenker and the soft light of Billie Marten, she writes with truth at the center.
MacLaine writes through relationships and self-reflection, finding endless inspiration and guidance in nature’s timelessness and constant change.
Though she identifies primarily as a songwriter, MacLaine is leaning into performance, learning its language set by set. She's most at home in the simple setup: a room, a guitar, and the quiet exchange between her and whoever's listening. That's where she feels music makes its strongest case.
In April 2025, MacLaine released Thoughts After Dinner, a 10-track record that introduced her reflective, lived-in style. Like the bittersweetness of a persimmon, these tracks navigate discontentment and disappointment with the self and others, while arriving at new beginnings and resolution. Her most recent release, On the Rocks, explored new textures across two songs while staying rooted in her lyrical core. A new record is already underway, with more music set to arrive in Spring 2026.
